commongood intersections of compassion and creativity.

When we are young and again when we are old, we depend heavily on the affection of others. Between these stages we usually feel that we can do everything without help from others and that other people´s affection is simply not important. But at this stage I think it is very important to keep deep human affection. ~Dalai Lama

Recently a kindergartner was confronted with a family tragedy. Once the students were informed of the situation, they rallied around the student inquiring about his feelings, connecting with his view. They began creating artwork that expressed their empathy and affirmed his feelings. I was not present at the moment this happened but I had the privilege of seeing the artwork. It was powerfully simple, and beautifully heartfelt.

The openness and sincerity of this spontaneous act of kindness is inspiring.
